How we connect with others today often traces back to where we started. Our family dynamics, early relationships, and learned coping strategies subtly guide how we navigate intimacy, conflict, trust, and life changes. At Abbotsford Valley Counselling, we use family of origin and attachment theory to help clients explore these patterns with care, curiosity, and no blame.
Family of origin work explores the family environment in which an individual grew up. It may explore messages you received about emotions, boundaries, responsibility, safety, or relationships. Attachment theory counselling looks at how early bonds and later experiences may influence the way you connect with others. While your history doesn’t dictate your future, it does provide valuable insight. Looking through that lens often helps identify unhelpful patterns for positive change.
