Throughout life, personal experiences become personal stories. People give these stories meaning, and the stories help shape a person’s identity. Narrative therapy uses the power of these stories to help people discover their life purpose. The client is placed in the role of “narrator” in their own story, thus allowing them to take control of their life story. Narrative therapy encourages clients to create space between them and their problem, frame the problem within a larger sociocultural context, and make room for other stories. Abbotsford Valley Counselling incorporates Narrative therapy practices within each counselling session.
